Traffic crashes at Gold Coast

Police are investigating two separate crashes on the Gold Coast involving the same Nissan Dualis yesterday, August 27.

It will be alleged the Nissan was involved in a crash with another car on the Pacific Motorway at Gaven around lunchtime, which caused damage to its bonnet.

The driver allegedly kept driving along the motorway, causing the bonnet to flip up, damage the vehicle windscreen and detach from the vehicle.

No one was physically injured.

Police intercepted the damaged vehicle a short time later at Napper Road in Arundel.

The 25-year-old Tanah Merah driver allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test and was issued a 24 hour drivers licence suspension and several traffic infringement notices.

The infringements include failing to give way when entering traffic from side of road ($464) ; failing to drive within marked lane on multi-lane road ($123); driving a defective vehicle ($309); failing to remove from road something which has fallen from driver’s vehicle and is likely to injure, obstruct or damage (bonnet) ($258); injurious matter on road ($619).

Police investigations remained ongoing and a ‘police aware’ sticker was fixed onto the defective vehicle’s windscreen.

Around 9pm that same day, police were called to a single-vehicle crash on Smith Street (westbound) in Molendinar to reports the same Nissan Dualis had crashed and landed on its side.

The driver, and only occupant inside the car, was transported to hospital in a stable condition.

Officers will allege a different 25-year-old Nerang man was driving the vehicle and the alleged driver from earlier was the passenger.

The Nerang man returned a positive roadside drug test and was issued with two Traffic Infringement Notices – including drive defective vehicle ($361) and drive without clear view (police aware sticker obstructing view) ($309).

He was also issued a Notice to Appear for failing to provide specimen of blood and is expected to appear before the Southport Magistrates Court on October 11.
