Trafficking charge after 136kg cannabis seizure at Gold Coast

Police have charged a man with drug offences after locating and seizing approximately 136 kilograms of cannabis during a vehicle intercept at Currumbin Waters on Saturday June 18.

At approximately 12.45pm detectives from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad (MOCS) intercepted an unregistered vehicle travelling along Guineas Creed Road.

It will be alleged police located 136 kilograms of high-grade cannabis packed in cardboard boxes in the rear of the transit van.

The located cannabis has a street value of approximately $1.15 million.

The driver of the vehicle, a 22-year-old Elanora man, has been charged with multiple offences including trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs (Schedule 2 drug quantity exceeding Schedule 3), possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence (vehicle) and driving a motor vehicle without a licence.

He will appear at the Southport Magistrates Court today (June 20).
