Perth Zoo is overwhelmed with heart-warming messages of support and condolences as the Western Australian community grieves beloved Asian Elephant Tricia.
The 65 year old matriarch passed away peacefully on Wednesday night, surrounded by her dedicated and loving keepers.
Countless messages of support are being shared with Perth Zoo, demonstrating Tricia’s position as a treasured State icon and an important piece of WA’s history.
Perth Zoo asks that the community do not send flowers, but rather help create a lasting legacy for this extraordinary animal by donating to the Tricia Tribute to Conservation Fund.
The fund has been established to support the conservation work of Perth Zoo and build an elephant guard post in the Bukit Tigapuluh ecosystem in Sumatra in Tricia’s name.
The guard post will help conservationists monitor and protect one of the last remaining wild herds of Sumatran Elephants in Tricia’s name.
A memorial walk will open at Perth Zoo on Sunday July 10, 2022. This reflective, self-guided walk will give the community an opportunity to pay their respects and learn more about Tricia’s impact as a conservation ambassador.

“The Perth Zoo family and those closest to Tricia are grieving, but today it’s clear they have the support of the whole State during this difficult time.
“Tricia was an integral piece of the zoo, but importantly, this incredible animal held a place in the hearts of all Western Australians and was adored by generations.
“It’s truly touching to see the condolences and reflective memories being shared online.
“I encourage you to continue honouring Tricia’s memory with a visit to her memorial walk or that you consider donating to her conservation fund.”
