Filming has completed in Queensland on the second season of tropical noir crime drama Troppo, with Thomas Jane and Nicole Chamoun reprising their roles as private investigators Ted Conkaffey and Amanda Pharrell. The series will have its Australian premiere on ABC TV and ABC iview.
Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney said that filming of the new season, inspired by the Candice Fox novel Redemption Point, was another welcome boost to the local screen sector.
“2023 has been a strong year for Queensland-led projects with feature film production including Scarygirl, Love is in the Air, A Savage Christmas and Audrey and series releases like In Limbo, The Black Hand, In Our Blood, Rebel with a Cause and Dawn of the Dolphinsall coming out of the sunshine state.
“This season of Troppo will showcase the talents of Queensland creatives-including co-writer Boyd Quakawoot (Black Snow), AACTA-nominated director Grant Brown (Janet King, Harrow) and director of photography Tony O’Loughlan ACS SOC (Dive Club, Great White, Love is in the Air)-to a global audience, as well as the skills and experience of approximately 160 cast and crew.
“Screen Queensland is proud to support this Queensland-made series, which this season has injected more than $9 million into the state’s economy.”
Producer Lisa Duff and Executive Producer David Ogilvy said that Perpetual and Beyond have been thrilled to continue the journey of iconic private investigators Ted Conkaffey and Amanda Pharrell in the tropical world of Far North Queensland.
“With support from our partners, Screen Queensland and AGC Television, a stellar writing team and brilliant cast, Ted and Amanda are unleashed into a thrilling new crime drama that will leave audiences guessing until the very end and gasping at the denouement.”
Troppo picks up six months on from the explosive first season, with Ted (Thomas Jane) and Amanda (Nicole Chamoun) investigating a bizarre local murder and an exotic drug ring, whilst Amanda tangles with an old enemy and a new love, and Ted’s past stalks him and his family to Crimson Lake – with deadly consequences.
