Two men arrested and drugs and cash seized in Coburg

Two men will appear in court today after they rammed a police car and engaged in alleged erratic and high risk driving across Melbourne’s northern suburbs yesterday.

A 32-year-old man from Mickleham has been charged with aggravated reckless exposure to police officer of risk by driving (x2) and trafficking a drug of dependence.

A 31-year-old man has been charged with reckless conduct endangering serious injury, commit indictable offence whilst on bail and other charges.

The charges follow a protracted police response through Broadmeadows, Campbellfield, Reservoir and Coburg after a silver Ford Falcon ran a red light and travelled onto the wrong side of the road, at the intersection of Camp Road and Magar Boulevard, about 3.50pm.

Officers followed the car as it sped off and continued into Campbellfield before it was dumped in Fordson Road.

The driver fled across Sydney Road before he was picked up by an associate in a black Holden Commodore utility.

The Airwing assisted officers on the ground as the pair continued on in an allegedly erratic manner, at times travelling in excess of 100km/h on Sydney Road and on the wrong side of the road.

The utility was also seen to swerve onto a median strip to avoid oncoming traffic.

As officers closed in of the pair in an underground carpark in Coburg, a police car was rammed a number of times as one of the men tried to flee.

He was arrested a short time later following a foot pursuit. The other man was arrested in the carpark.

A search of the ute uncovered quantities of suspected GHB, methylamphetamine, cash and drug paraphernalia.

The men have been remanded to appear before Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court today.
