A motorcyclist will attend court after a speed camera detected him travelling at more than double the speed limit this afternoon.
About 4pm on Friday 28 August, a motorcycle was detected by a speed camera travelling at a whopping 229 km/h in a 110 km/h zone on Port Wakefield Highway at Dublin.
Northern Road Policing Section members attended the rider’s home address and reported the 28-year-old Salisbury Downs man for riding at a speed dangerous to the public and riding unlicensed. His motorbike was impounded for 28 days and he will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
Motorcyclists are considered vulnerable road users and are regularly over-represented in crash statistics. This reckless example of travelling at more than twice the speed limit shows a total disregard for the road rules, and puts the rider and other members of the public at great risk of injury or death.
