Urgent action needed on Cam River Bridge

Tasmanian Labor

Workers, students and families have experienced significant
delays resulting from flood damage to the Cam River Bridge at Somerset.

Infrastructure Minister Michael Ferguson confirmed on
Thursday that the bridge had been reduced to one lane of traffic leaving
travelers stranded for hours on the side of the road.

As a result, bus services were cancelled this morning
and children were encouraged to stay at home rather than go to school.

The government must outline its plans for emergency
services and how the hospital will be accessed under such circumstances.

This is a major freight route and there is currently
no information on how freight, perishables and materials will be moved through
the region.

Minister Ferguson and the Government has known of the issues
with the Cam River Bridge for quite some time but yet the Liberal Government
has failed to come up with a contingency plan.

In 2021, Labor announced it would build an additional
bridge so that there was four-lane access for this reason.

This is just another example of the government failing
to get the basics right for Tasmanians.
