Used condoms mailed in Bayside

Bayside Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team are appealing for public assistance following reports suspected used condoms have been posted to bayside residents over the past three months.

In most instances, victims have been receiving packages containing handwritten messages and the used prophylactics.

The first incident was reported to police on 20 March, with the most recent occurring on 15 May.

Letters have been mailed to residential addresses across Melbourne’s south-eastern and eastern suburbs.

Investigators have been told several people attended their local police stations to report the incidents, with upwards of 65 female victims coming forward.

It is believed that most of those who reported the material have received multiple letters, all with the suspected used item included.

Officers believe the victims are linked and are part of a targeted attack.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
