A 22 year old Devonport man has been charged with a number of offences after he was caught travelling over 100 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone.
Tasmania Police detected a white Subaru Liberty travelling at excessive speed in the Devonport area at about 6pm on Monday 11 November.
The male driver tested positive to a roadside drug test and subsequently provided an oral fluid sample for analysis.
He will be summonsed to appear in court in relation to unlicensed driving, exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km, carrying a dangerous article and drug driving, pending the analysis results.
The vehicle, which he had borrowed from a ‘mate’, was impounded for a 28 day period.
“Police are committed to detecting and stopping those irresponsible people who choose to drive while affected by either drugs or alcohol,” said Sergeant James Scicluna.
“We will continue to target known drug users in addition to increasing our use of random drug tests to ensure Tasmanians are kept safe on our roads.”
