- The Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland’s future and a fresh start for Queensland veterans.
The valour and sacrifice of servicemen and women will be immortalised in Kingaroy through a new Veteran and Community Welfare Centre, made possible through the inaugural round of the Crisafulli Government’s Honouring Our Veterans grants.
Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL Sub-Branch has received more than $123,000 to support construction and external works including driveways and gardens, providing a place for respite and reflection to honour fallen and returned heroes.
It’s just one of the ways the Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland’s future and a fresh start for veterans across the State.
Support for veterans and their families will be strengthened further with $1.5 million in funding now available through the second round of the Honouring Our Veterans program.
The program forms part of a $6 million investment over four years to support community-led projects that preserve and honour the service of Queensland’s veterans.
Grants will support a wide range of initiatives, including building refurbishments or upgrades, creating or refurbishing war memorials, avenues of honour and memorial gardens, as well as initiatives that bring communities together to recognise service and sacrifice.
As part of a broader commitment to veterans, the Crisafulli Government committed $26 million over four years in the 2025-26 State Budget to support Queensland’s 163,000 current and former Australian Defence Force personnel, ensuring veterans and their families receive recognition and targeted support.
The program also complements the development of the State’s first Queensland Veterans and Veterans’ Families Strategy, which will ensure a more coordinated and targeted approach to improving outcomes for veterans and their families.
Premier David Crisafulli said Honouring Our Veterans was helping recognise the sacrifice of servicemen and servicewomen for generations to come.
“Communities across Queensland have been shaped by the service of our veterans, and there are countless stories of their sacrifice which should be preserved and shared for generations,” Premier Crisafulli said.
“This practical support is one of the ways we’re not only commemorating, but also supporting our veterans, both now and in the future.”
Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said the new Veteran and Community Welfare Centre was providing a lasting legacy for local veterans and their families.
“Our veterans have given so much in service to our nation, and this new centre will ensure they have a dedicated place in the South Burnett where they can access support, connect with others and reflect on their service,” Mrs Frecklington said.
“It is especially fitting that the facility will be known as the Don Davey OAM Memorial Veterans and Community Centre, recognising a man whose commitment to veterans and the wider South Burnett community has left an enduring mark on our region.
“I’m proud to see Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL Sub-Branch secure this funding through the Crisafulli Government’s Honouring Our Veterans program, delivering practical support while preserving the stories and sacrifice of those who have served our country.”
Kingaroy-Memerambi Sub-Branch Secretary Lieutenant Commander Steven Reynolds CSM RAN R’td said the funding would strengthen support for local veterans and their families.
“We are honoured to receive this Queensland Government funding which will enable the new Kingaroy Veterans and Welfare Centre to be fully equipped with essential facilities, including display cases, library shelving, and storage, as well as driveways, a memorial garden, and an outdoor covered respite area,” Lieutenant Commander Steven Reynolds CSM RAN (Retd) said.
“Once complete, this state-of-the-art facility will provide support to South Burnett veterans and their families, offering a welcoming and accessible space for services.”
Applications for the second round of the Honouring our Veterans grants program close 4 September 2026.
