The Western Australian Government has released the Geotechnical Interpretive Report for the Mira Mar landslide in Albany, WA.

This report by the independent geotechnical consultant, CMW Geosciences, has been released and is available from the Great Southern Development Commission website.

The report outlines geological factors that have contributed to the slip occurrence and conceptual remediation options for the slope under a range of scenarios.

The 2022-23 Mid-year Review provided $749,000 for implementation of short-term remediation measures and analysis of long-term remediation options.

A short-term remediation proposal presented by CMW Geosciences to install a temporary drainage system to mitigate impacts over the upcoming winter period will commence shortly following consultation with property owners.

The WA Government will consider the long-term remediation options presented in the Geotechnical Interpretative Report in consultation with stakeholders and local property owners, given the significant complexities surrounding any form of implementation.

The report can be downloaded from the Great Southern Development Commission website.

As stated by Regional Development Minister Don Punch:

“The release of this report is a significant step forward in determining how the land slip zone can be stabilised through collaborative efforts with the private landowners.

“The State Government remains committed to working with the affected stakeholders during this process to find a positive outcome for what has been a challenging time for those directly impacted.”

As stated by Albany MLA Rebecca Stephens:

“I know firsthand the importance of this report to the residents affected by the landslip, and I’m glad that the short-term remediation measures will soon be implemented.

“I will be meeting with the affected landowners in the coming days to go through the report in more detail, and I look forward to taking on board their feedback as we work towards remediation of the area.”
