High-rise Sturt Street building approved

A multi-level residential and commercial building in Wagga’s CBD, which will be 17 storeys at its highest point, has been approved by Council.

The development application is for 67 residential apartments, three commercial tenancies, 91 car parking spaces and associated works at 11 Sturt Street subject to the conditions contained within the assessment report.

The tallest part of the building will have 14 residential storeys and three of car parking. A six storey section will be one level commercial tenancies and five residential levels.

The design was modified during the assessment period to respect surrounding buildings and the conservation area resulting in an increased scale to the northern side of the site adjacent to the Murrumbidgee River.

Support for roadside memorial ‘guidelines’

A rescission motion to overturn a resolution on Council’s Roadside Memorials Policy and progress towards developing a set of new guidelines in its place has been supported by Council.

Councillors unanimously agreed to rescind the original resolution from the 20 January Ordinary Meeting and hold a Councillor Workshop to develop guidelines to which Council staff can refer.

An amendment to the original motion included the workshop to assist in developing the guidelines.

Weissel Oval development concept

Council has approved a concept application for a future staged development at the former Weissel Oval site in Gurwood Street, Wagga.

The concept development application is to provide an overarching development scenario for the site. This provides a clear indication of the future development outcome and includes parameters to guide future urban development on the site.

This application does not propose any works, which will be subject to a separate development application.

Land rezoned at shopping centre site

A planning proposal to rezone land to increase development potential of a neighbourhood shopping centre site, located on the corner of Avocet Drive and Rainbow Drive in Estella, has been approved by Council.

The proposal was presented to Council on 26 August 2019. Council has since received a Gateway Determination from NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment to proceed with the planning proposal subject to public consultation, which took place in November and December last year.

The land will be re-zoned from RE1 Public Recreation to B2 Local Centre. The Land Reservation Acquisition Layer applicable to the same portion of land was removed.

Urana Street lease renewed

Council has agreed to a renewed lease agreement with Wagga Mini Mix and Precast Concrete Pty Ltd for a disused section of property in Urana Street.

The lease is for the purpose of depot/storage and expired on 31 December 2019.

Councillor appointed to committee

Councillor Greg Conkey has been appointed to the Floodplain Risk Management Advisory Committee following the resignation of Cr Tim Koschel.

The primary purpose of the committee is to provide communication and consultation with the community and key stakeholders around floodplain risk management in the Wagga Wagga Local Government Area.

Complaint Handling Policy

Council has endorsed its Complaint Handling Policy after amendments were made to the document.

No public submissions were received during the exhibition period of the draft policy late last year.

Request to defer contributions

Council has resolved not to defer the payment of infrastructure contributions associated with a 214-lot sub division at 86 Harris Road in Gobbagombalin, Wagga.

A request was received from the Combined Development Group regarding the deferral of the payment of infrastructure contributions associated with a development application which was determined on 24 April last year.

RP-7 86 HARRIS ROAD GOBBAGOMBALIN (DA18/0302) PROPOSAL TO DEFER DEVELOPER CONTRIBUTIONS

Farrer Road budget variations approved

Council has approved budget variations to accommodate scope design alterations in the $6.23M Farrer Road upgrade project.

A report to Council detailed six scope changes and three variations amounting to $505,311. Additional funds required, and approved by Council, were $251,569.

Scope changes and variations included a culvert crossing, asbestos excavation and removal, cycle pathway, bus parking bays, a bridge over a water main, rock excavation and material cartage.

RP-9 RFT2020-22 FARRER ROAD WIDENING – CHANGES TO SCOPE

Levee bank easements acquired

Council has agreed to acquire easements for the right of carriageway along a section of levee bank on Tarcutta Street.

Acquiring the easements will provide public access to the shared pathway as part of the Active Travel Plan route.

Gobbagombalin stormwater management

Council has approved for negotiations to progress towards the acquisition of land and easements for stormwater and sewer management, including the construction of a detention basin, at Harris Road in Gobbagombalin.

Councillors have requested an on-site inspection be arranged.

Road upgrade takes early step

The upgrade and widening of a major thoroughfare road in Lake Albert is a step closer.

Council has approved negotiations to proceed with private landowners to acquire land to accommodate the planned upgrade and widening of Gregadoo Road.

Preliminary design work has identified the need for 35 land acquisitions.

Museum site redevelopment

Council has supported a recommendation to go back to the open market in a request for tenders as part of the development design and construction of the Botanic Gardens Museum of the Riverina site.

New trucks purchase approved

Council has approved the purchase of four new 4×2 Crew Cab Truck and Tipper Trays, specific for the needs of Council’s Civil Operations. The purchase will be made from Wagga Trucks.
