East Gippsland Shire Council is calling on locals to consider fostering or adopting a pet from the local animal welfare organisation, Animal Aid Bairnsdale.
The Animal Aid shelter is a place of refuge for the lost, unwanted, and abandoned animals. The local community can support the shelter by opening their homes to pets through the shelter’s fostering and adoption programs.
Mayor Cr Mark Reeves has supported the call.
“When you bring a shelter animal into your life, you can make a big difference by giving them love, care,and a chance for a better future,” said Cr Reeves.
Animal Aid’s foster program is designed to support animals who are not quite ready to be adopted.
Dogs and cats in need of temporary care are placed with kind foster families or individuals in our community.
“Although fostering requires a significant commitment, the rewards are amazing. Foster caregivers play a crucial role in helping dogs and cats find permanent homes. During busy times such as kitten season, foster support is extremely important for Animal Aid’s mission to provide the best care for all animals in need,” Cr Reeves said.
“The length of foster care can vary from a few days to several months, depending on the caregiver’s availability and the age of animal.”
Animal Aid also offers cats and dogs as lifelong companions. The Bairnsdale shelter has a variety of animals waiting for new owners and homes. All animals have undergone thorough health checks, and have been desexed and microchipped, to ensure their well-being.
