We’re hiring: Digital Content Creator to help influence transport safety

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is seeking a high-performing Digital Content Creator, with a focus on managing the production of animated content, to join its Engagement and Influence team in our Canberra office.

This brand new position is a unique opportunity for the right candidate to use their range of skills in further developing our existing capabilities to produce broadcast-quality video and animations, infographics, and other social media material to highlight investigation outcomes and safety messaging.

“My team is responsible for amplifying the safety messaging from every investigation by targeting industry, the media, and the general public using our available communications channels,” Head of Engagement and Influence, Paul Sadler, said. “People are increasingly consuming our investigation and safety content in a variety of different ways beyond reading written reports, so this position will work with others in my team to help generate a broad range of digital products to reach the right audience, at the right time, in the most impactful way.”

From working with Transport Safety Investigators to create 3D and 2D animated paths of an accident sequences, to filming and producing broadcast-quality TV and radio grabs in the ATSB’s dedicated multimedia studio, the Digital Content Creator will take advantage of new and evolving data sources in the creation of engaging content for our social media channels, and to supply to mainstream and industry media.

“We regularly provide media with interview-style grabs, animations and b-roll footage in support of new investigations and the publishing of our reports,” Sadler said. “Given the public interest in accidents when they occur, we can produce and circulate video and audio content to the media in under an hour should we need to. We work in a complex and dynamic environment, and providing clear and factual information rapidly at all phases of an investigation is very important.”

Sadler added candidates that have a demonstrated ability to produce timely, accurate and authoritative written material, as well as having an in-depth understanding of the media and social media realms, and experience in or knowledge of the aviation, rail and/or marine industries, would be highly desirable for the position.

“The ATSB is a multi-modal investigator currently focusing on improving transport safety in the aviation, rail and marine industries,” Sadler said. “If this role description sounds like a perfect fit for you, then I would encourage you to apply for the role before 6 September. I am very excited to be able to introduce this new capability into my team in the coming months.”
