Wearable Art Creatives’ first exhibition opens at Pinnacles Gallery this week

Visitors will be able to have an intimate look at selected works from this year’s North Australian Festival of Arts wearable fashion showcase POSE at the new exhibition UP CLOSE.

The exhibition opens at Pinnacles Gallery this week and is the first exhibition for Wearable Art Creatives, a Townsville-based artistic group that focuses on expanding wearable art practice in the north.

Wearable Art Creatives founder and creative director Christina Papadimitriou said the group was about building a community that lasted far beyond its shows.

“Wearable Art Creatives welcomes all artists, whether they are emerging or established, or individuals or collaborators,” she said.

“We aim to build confidence and competence in artists and creatives and to provide an avenue for them to showcase their talents.

“The artworks in this exhibition have come from as far afield as Mallacoota in Victoria, as well as from Cairns.

“UP CLOSE is a must-see ahead of entries opening for our 2022 POSE event.”

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said the exhibition was a fascinating look at how items could be upcycled into works of art.

“Artists across Townsville continue to show us just how innovative they are with their practice, and this exhibition is a shining example of that,” Cr Greaney said.

“The attention to detail on these works is remarkable, and I know that visitors are going to be taken by just how creative each and every piece is.

“Exhibitions like this are what make Pinnacles Gallery and the Riverway Arts Centre such a great place to visit, whether it’s a solo trip or an outing for the whole family.”
