Welshpool company awarded METRONET car park contract

  • Westforce Construction to design-build car parks at Meltham and Ashfield
  • Part of the wider METRONET project to upgrade Bayswater Station and precinct
  • Bayswater Station Upgrade includes the first stage of the Morley-Ellenbrook Line
  • About 200 new bays to be installed across two sites
  • Western Australian company Westforce Construction has been chosen to design and build two new car parks at Meltham and Ashfield stations as part of the Bayswater Station Upgrade.

Under the $1.6 million contract, the Welshpool-based company will extend the existing car park at Meltham by about 120 bays, while a new car park of about 80 bays will be built at Ashfield.

Both car parks will include lighting, CCTV and ease of access to the stations, and a Kiss ‘n’ Ride facility will be built at Ashfield.

The project is a component of major upgrade works to transform Bayswater Station into a key METRONET precinct that will connect the Midland Line, Forrestfield-Airport Link and Morley-Ellenbrook Line.

The car parks are expected to be open for use in the first half of 2020.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“I am pleased to announce that another local company, Westforce Construction, will play an important role in delivering this METRONET project to WA people.

“This WA company has been involved in a range of local projects recently including the widening of Wanneroo Road, construction of the Beenyup bus depot and even building one of Adventure World’s rollercoasters.

“These new car parks at Ashfield and Meltham stations will provide commuters with convenient alternatives to Bayswater once the METRONET upgrade moves into the car park area.

“This is an exciting step forward in the project to upgrade Bayswater Station – to a key transport hub connecting the Midland Line with the Forrestfield-Airport Link and future Morley-Ellenbrook Line.”
