This latest Labor policy is a shopping list of things the Tasmanian Liberal Government is already doing.
Enter stage left, our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future – released last election.
We have already undertaken and completed an audit for on-site early childhood education and care.
We have already identified schools that need Outside School Hours Care .
We have already budgeted and announced four new supersized CFLCs that include space for child care.
And we’re already working to address workforce issues with our $5 million fund.
And changing the rules to require childcare centres in every new school, when you’re not committing to any new schools, is simply ridiculous.
I wrote to the Federal Government in March , submitting 12 government school sites for the Commonwealth’s consideration to provide capital funding to assist in establishing childcare centres, with the State Government to make the land available. As a result, we secured funding for the development of sites through the Building Early Education Fund at Huonville and Westbury Primary Schools.
And the remaining promises raise more questions than answers:
- How will the $500,000 be spent on the West Coast? That will build him a room – will he put it in Zeehan or Queenstown?
- How will he engage with each and every community?
- How much will this cost?
- How will he fund it?
- How will he staff it?
This is pure politics – we have already done this work.
Tasmanians are sick of the politics. They want action. They want stability. And they want it now.
This election comes down to one choice: a strong Liberal team with a real plan or another merry-go-round of chaos and compromise.
