Woman Dies In Hospital After House Fire At Dubbo

A woman has died in hospital as investigations continue into a house fire in the state’s Central West this week.

Just before 4am on Thursday (21 March 2024), emergency services were called to a home on Freshwater Drive, Dubbo, after reports of a fire.

Fire & Rescue NSW attended along with officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District, and a woman was pulled from the house unconscious.

The 33-year-old was treated by paramedics and taken to Dubbo Base Hospital in a critical condition.

The blaze was extinguished; however, the home was destroyed.

A firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital for assessment and observation. Two police officers also presented to hospital and were treated for smoke inhalation.

A crime scene was established and externally examined. Further forensic examination expected when structurally safe to do so. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

About 6.40pm today (Friday 22 March 2024), police were notified the woman had died in hospital.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
