Work starts on Wendouree Children’s Centre redevelopment

The expansion of Wendouree Children’s Centre has begun, with works underway to build two maternal and child health rooms at the Norman Street site.

Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison and City of Ballarat Councillors Amy Johnson and Grant Tillett visited the centre on Friday 11 October to officially launch the construction process.

Owned and operated by the City of Ballarat, Wendouree Children’s Centre offers long day care and sessional kindergarten services. The introduction of maternal and child health services at the centre began as a trial in February last year.

Earlier this year, Council was awarded a $350,000 grant under the State Government’s Children’s Facilities Capital Program to build two maternal and child health rooms and a waiting room at the centre.

Council will contribute $210,000 to the project, which will result in a fully integrated family and children’s services facility for the Ballarat community.

“This expansion supports the City of Ballarat Council Plan objectives to provide inclusive and accessible public spaces, quality services, and opportunities for the community to participate, feel safe and be active and healthy,” City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Samantha McIntosh said.

“Furthermore, it meets the Municipal Early Years Plan’s strategic priority for healthy children and thriving families by working in partnership to create a community where all families’ physical, emotional and social wellbeing are cared for.”

The building works are expected to be completed by March next year.
