A $14 million contract to improve the jetties at Hillarys and Fremantle has been awarded to Western Australian-based company GTS Australia.
The contract includes reconfiguring and replacing five jetties at Hillarys Boat Harbour, closest to the retail precinct and one jetty at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour.
At Hillarys Boat Harbour, immediate works will include the construction of a realigned 3.5-metre-wide central floating walkway, providing continued penholder access while further works are undertaken.
Existing jetties (A, F, G, H and J) will be demolished and replaced with modern, low maintenance, floating infrastructure that will be connected to the new walkway and can accommodate a total of 115 pens.
At Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, Jetty 3 will be replaced with a modern floating pen system to accommodate 45 new berths.
Both jetty replacement projects will be undertaken over the next two years and will ensure more efficient access for penholders and the community.
These projects are funded by the McGowan Government’s WA Recovery Plan.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
“Following a competitive tender process, the contract award will see the start of the largest jetty upgrade project at Hillarys in more than a decade and ageing infrastructure improved at Fremantle.
“The investment through the WA Recovery Plan and our capital works program will further stimulate the State economy and create 11 new direct job opportunities with the contractor and employ 39 subcontractors including at least five apprentices.
“The projects will deliver real improvements for users with access to new modern pen facilities located close to the heart of each harbour, with easy access to restaurants, bars and retail precincts.”

“At Hillarys, the new jetty arrangement will improve pedestrian access for Rottnest Island ferry passengers and service vehicles.
“It also builds upon the other projects underway at the harbour to help enhance its vibrancy and make it an even greater place to visit.”
As stated by Fremantle MLA Simone McGurk:
“Our Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour is vital as it caters for both recreational and commercial fishing vessels.
“These upgrades for Jetty 3 will only make it that much easier to access open water and accommodate for more vessels with the additional new berths.”
