The Victorian Government is providing more support to hundreds of young people across the state through the Working for Victoria initiative.
Minister for Employment Jaala Pulford today announced the first tranche of 289 jobs being created for young Victorians across seven government departments and agencies, as part of the Working for Victoria Youth Employment Program.
The young jobseekers will be employed in roles including alpine and environmental officers for the Buller Stirling Alpine Resort Board, farm workers at the Agriculture Victoria facility in Gippsland and contract management with the Department of Transport to support the Government’s Building Works stimulus package.
Young jobseekers from public housing estates in Richmond, Flemington, North Melbourne, Collingwood and Fitzroy will have opportunities to apply for jobs in administration and engagement associated with the delivery of housing services. These positions could transition into housing officer roles at the end of the training program.
These newly created six to 12 month positions are a great way for a young person to kick-start their career, contribute valuable support to our communities and strengthens the Victorian public sector’s future workforce with young people who are well trained and sourced from all parts of our community.
The roles are part of more than 400 paid employment opportunities for Victorians aged between 17-29 across a range of Victorian Government departments and public sector agencies to be delivered by Working for Victoria.
The jobs have been created in metropolitan and regional locations including Ballarat, Bendigo, Traralgon, Morwell, the Alpine region, Barwon South West region, Towong Shire, Mansfield, Tatura and Hamilton. There will also be dozens of roles available in police services areas across the state.
Each participant will be provided with appropriate training, and in the last two months of their placement, will be mentored and supported into their next employment opportunity.
In addition to the creation of these new roles, more than 50 young people have today graduated from the Victorian Government’s Youth Cadetship Scheme.
