Works underway for smarter parking in Church Street

Church Street village in Brighton is being upgraded with works to improve the road surface, update the streetscape, and install parking sensors to make it easier to find a car parking space in the area.

Council is delivering these upgrades as quickly as possible to minimise disruption for residents and traders, with works expected to be completed in July 2020.

Upcoming road works between New and St Andrews Streets

On Sunday 31 May, Church Street between New and St Andrews Streets will be closed from 4pm for resurfacing works, weather permitting. The noisy works will be completed in the early evening to minimise disruption to traders, drivers and residents.

The roundabout at the intersection of Church and St Andrews Streets will also be resurfaced on the same night as the section of Church Street between New Street and St Andrews Street. This work is separate to the proposal to construct an at-grade pedestrian crossing at this site or nearby location.

Parking sensors and dynamic signs

The Church Street village car parking improvement project involves installing car parking sensor pods and real-time parking signs to make it easier to know where there are available car parking spaces.

During May, in-ground parking sensors were installed in four off-street car parks in Church Street village. The installation of sensors in parking bays along Church Street will begin on 1 June for up to two weeks. Sensors will be installed before 11am on weekdays, with each sensor taking approximately five minutes to install before the parking bay is released for public parking.
