Food, culture and colours from around the world will come together at a free fun street mini-festival in Logan Central on Saturday, March 11.
Tastes of Croydon, from 4pm to 8pm, will showcase the local community’s diversity, creativity and cuisines.
Cultures from regions including Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, the South Pacific, New Zealand and Australia will be showcased in street food, traditional dancing and soulful song.
The event, supported by Logan City Council, will also be an opportunity for the community to learn more about exciting redevelopment plans for the area under the Croydon Road Master Plan.
This includes streetscape upgrades on Croydon and Blackwood roads, a new Logan Central Place Activation and Events Strategy and increased support for local businesses, including the Façade Improvement Program.
The entertainment will be led by renowned steel-pan player and vocalist Alvin Rostant, from the Jimboomba-based Caribbean Arts Company.
Dance and music performances will also be given by the Queensland Kachin Community (Myanmar), the Queensland Madi Community (Africa) and the Heilani Polynesian School of Arts.
Economic Development Chair Jon Raven said Taste of Croydon would help kick off an exciting new phase for the area.
“We have consulted extensively with the local community and business owners in the area,” Cr Raven said.
“Their feedback has helped to shape the upgrades and changes that are now underway to revitalise this important part of our city.”
Infrastructure Chair and Division 2 Councillor Teresa Lane said the local community is proud of its diversity.
“The people of Division 2 love to celebrate and share their different cultures and cuisines,” Cr Lane said.
“We also don’t mind a fun, safe street party and Tastes of Croydon will be the opportunity for us to share all this with everyone else while at the same time learning about the exciting upgrade for this busy area.”
Tastes of Croydon is alcohol and pet-free (service dogs excepted). Smoking is not permitted.
Attendees are advised that some food stalls may not have EFTPOS and could be cash only.
Road closures along a section of Croydon will be in place from 6am to 11pm.
