Following the dawn service on Anzac Day the Western Plains Cultural Centre (WPCC) invites residents to walk across the park and listen to special guest Dr Breann Fallon.
Dr Fallon, from the Sydney Jewish Museum, will present ‘Jewish Resistance During the Holocaust: From Warsaw to Auschwitz,’ at the WPCC’s annual Anzac Day morning talk.
Dr Fallon will highlight inspirational lessons of resilience and common humanity that can be applied to our contemporary lives.
“Through the Shaping Plans to Advance Regional Culture (SPARC) Cultural Plan, Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) has made a commitment to ensuring the community has access to talks and presentations that shine a light on the past and how the challenges of the past can still impact our world today,” WPCC Cultural Development Officer Jess Moore said.
“Anzac Day is such an important event for us, as a community, to reflect on our values and impact on the world, but also why remembrance is so important as humans.”
Dr Fallon will discuss the fascinating history of Jewish resistance to the escalating violence of the Holocaust.
As Manager of Student Learning and Research at the Sydney Jewish Museum, Dr Fallon is also an ambassador for the Be a Mensch campaign, associated editor of The Religious Studies Project podcast and an advisory board member of The Bulletin for the Study of Religions.
Dr Fallon is a widely published author on the connection between religion and violence, having presented her academic research around the world. She is also the host of the documentary “Trafficked to Australia” and has appeared on ABC Radio National programs Religion and Ethics, God Forbid and Earshot as well as 2SER radio.
The WPCC and Creo Café will be open from 6am allowing residents to enjoy a bacon and egg roll and a warm coffee while they listen to Dr Fallon.
The free talk will be held from 6:30am in the WPCC Auditorium, following the dawn service at Victoria Park. Bookings are not required.
