Wyndham City has welcomed the State Government’s investment in new jobs, schools, and health across the municipality in today’s State Budget.
In a positive step forward, certainty surrounding the East Werribee Employment Precinct is on the horizon, with funding allocated for the development of a roadmap as well as a fast-tracked review of the area’s Precinct Structure Plan.
Wyndham City Mayor Cr Peter Maynard said while the Council was awaiting further detail, the move would lead to a range of economic, social and environmental benefits for the region.
“It’s fantastic to see this item in the Budget,” Cr Maynard said. “We know just how important this parcel of land is – not only to us here in Wyndham – but across the State. It’s important that the site’s potential is realised, and this could very well be the first steps towards that happening.”
According to the Budget papers, funding has been allocated for the construction of six new schools across Wyndham, including:
- Riverdale Secondary School (Tarneit)
- Tarneit North Primary School
- Lollypop Creek Specialist School (Werribee)
- Lollypop Creek Secondary School (Werribee)
- Black Forest East Primary School (Mambourin)
- Truganina North Primary School
“We’re particularly pleased to see that of the 13 new schools allocated funding for construction in Victoria, six are here in Wyndham. This is most definitely welcome news, and we thank the State Government for their investment. We are pleased to see funding for our existing schools too.” Cr Maynard said.
“With more than 120 babies born each week in Wyndham – we need to keep pace with this ongoing boom. We look forward to continuing to work with the Government in this space.”
The Werribee Mercy Hospital will also receive $110 million for an expansion of the emergency department with a goal of improving access to health services for our fast-growing community.
“The funding for the Werribee Mercy Hospital is also welcome news. We know this hospital does an outstanding job of servicing our residents – but as our community grows – so too does the pressure on the Mercy. This investment will help to alleviate some of that pressure.”
Funding was also received for road upgrades, a new police station in Point Cook and the arts sector.
