A greener Nelson Place set for this summer

Council is set to deliver a greener and better-shaded experience for visitors to Nelson Place in Williamstown by planting approximately 15 semi-mature elm trees this month.

Mayor of Hobsons Bay Councillor Jonathon Marsden said that the new trees would add to the appeal of Nelson Place.

“The new trees will provide increased shade in the summer months and will bring more colour and freshness to the landscape,” said Cr Marsden.

“In the winter months, the leaves will shed from the trees, allowing the light to filter through.”

The planting of new trees along Nelson Place supports objectives outlined in the Nelson Place Action Plan, which details a number of initiatives that aim to contribute to a vibrant Nelson Place all year round.

Cr Marsden said Nelson Place is one of Melbourne’s most scenic and significant retail and hospitality precincts.

“We have a beautiful waterfront location that showcases heritage streetscapes and architecture – these trees will add even more appeal to Nelson Place,” said Cr Marsden.

“Investing in and maintaining these new elm trees will freshen its look and get it ready for the busy summer period ahead.”

The trees will be planted through late September and early October.
