Activate! $394 million enhances our sporting lifestyle

Minister for Tourism, Innovation and Sport and Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics and Paralympics Sport and Engagement The Honourable Stirling Hinchliffe

The next phase of Activate! Queensland to keep Queenslanders active and healthy is being delivered across the State with $394 million over three years to enhance Queensland’s great lifestyle.

Sport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said Accelerate, the second action plan would see new and continuing investment in community sport.

“We know community sport is where we can make the biggest and direct difference to the lives of Queenslanders and protect Queensland’s great lifestyle as we grow,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“Now we’re on the green and gold runway to the 2032 Games, the Palaszczuk Government is pumping an extra $80.2 million into Accelerate to deliver early Games legacies for local sport.

“The additional $80.2 million steps up our action plan to $394 million for keeping Queenslanders active and healthy.

“Accelerate continues our investment in popular programs like FairPlay vouchers to reduce the financial barriers to young Queenslanders getting on a team or involved in active recreation.

“The Deadly Active and First Nations Sport and Recreation Programs keeps our focus on physical activity opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders.

“We’re boosting financial support for young Queensland athletes, coaches and officials with help to cover costs of attending for state, national and international competition events.

“The Emerging Athlete Pathways program is part of the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to getting more Queenslanders podium ready for the Brisbane 2032 Games.”

Mr Hinchliffe said the $4 million second round of ActiveKIT was now open until 18 August.

“ActiveKIT in partnership with Health and Wellbeing Queensland is about harnessing innovative ideas to get Queenslanders active more often,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“This is an opportunity to generate legacy by leveraging sporting knowledge and technology to innovate and drive physical activity, regardless of age and ability.

“Up to $200,000 is available for active industry start-ups or small to medium-sized business with trailblazing solutions from phone apps to guided hiking programs for women.

“The Palaszczuk Government’s Active Clubs program has also stoked the winter sporting season with $3.38 million for 1690 Queensland sport and active recreation clubs.

“Active Clubs funding is flexible, so it can be used to develop the skills of umpires, coaches and volunteers, buy new equipment, or support sporting carnivals and sign-on days.

“We know sporting carnivals bring competitors from out of town and are important for supporting visitor economies, particularly in regional Queensland.”

Accelerate includes a forward timetable of grant programs to provide certainty and give clubs more time to plan funding applications.

“On the runway to 2032, we’ll be investing in major sporting events from carnivals and international training camps to planning World Cup legacies including cricket’s T20 Men’s and the FIFA Women’s World Cup,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“Outstanding sporting facilities and clubs give Queensland the platform to confirm our State’s reputation as a global sport and tourism destination.

“The $394 million Accelerate phase of Activate! Queensland provides more avenues and initiatives to keep Queenslanders active and healthy.

“We want to create opportunities on Queensland’s green and gold runway to 2032 and through Accelerate deliver sport and active recreation outcomes that will benefit generations to come.”
