Anzac Day returns to full ceremony in 2022

Cenotaph

The Cenotaph at the City of Hobart Regatta Grounds will be surrounded by people in 2022 as locals gather to remember the legacy of Australian and New Zealand soldiers in service of their country at Monday’s Anzac Day commemorations.

City of Hobart Acting Lord Mayor Helen Burnet said she was pleased to see the event being made available to the entire community again after two years of disruption.

“The City of Hobart is proud to support the Tasmanian RSL Branch in this commemoration of local service men and women,” Acting Lord Mayor Burnet said.

“This is the pre-eminent ceremony in Tasmania for Anzac Day. It’s good to see that the community can, once more, attend this special day at the Hobart Cenotaph under eased restrictions.”

The ceremony was restricted to only 3000 people last year due to COVID regulations, and cancelled completely in 2020.

While this year’s event will not have capacity restrictions, there will still be a COVID Safety Plan and relevant measures in place, including a Check-in TAS QR code and alternative options for attendees to register.

Attendees will be encouraged to practice appropriate physical distancing and hand hygiene, and to wear masks to the event.

Following the Dawn Service, the traditional Anzac Day march will depart the intersection of Macquarie and Elizabeth streets at 11am led by Lieutenant Colonel Jared Hill CO 12/40th Battalion. The parade will march to the Cenotaph, where the wreath laying service is to commence at 11.45 am.

Anzac Day services will also be held in locations around the state, with residents advised to look up the RSL Tasmania website for a full list.
