The Festivals Australia program provides opportunities in regional and remote communities to showcase arts projects at a festival or a significant one-off celebration.
Up to $1.2 million is available each year to promote access to a range of projects, including parade, performance, workshop, installation or exhibition.
The funding contributes to a vibrant program of events like the annual Yarrabah Music and Cultural Festival in north Queensland.
Held in a pristine tropical coastal location near Cairns, Yarrabah hosts one of the country’s biggest Indigenous music festivals.
Each year brings something a little different, with the theme of the latest festival linked to the 2019 International Year of Indigenous languages featuring headline acts Yothu Yindi and Baker Boy performing some of their songs in language.
Yothu Yindi’s performance at the festival was supported by Festivals Australia through a grant of $45,000.
Applications for this year’s Festivals Australia funding close on 18 October at 5pm AEDT for projects commencing from 1 February 2020.
