Armed robbery and unlawful use of motor vehicle at Surfers Paradise, QLD

Police have charged two girls following an alleged armed robbery at Surfers Paradise overnight.

Around 1.40am, two girls asked a 29-year-old ride-share driver for a lift on Cavill Avenue. He agreed and the girls entered the man’s 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander station-wagon.

The man began driving when at Ferny Avenue it will be alleged that the girls requested the man pull over, before one of them threatened him with a broken glass bottle and they demanded he exit the vehicle.

The 29-year-old complied and reported the incident to police.

A short time later, police used a Tyre Deflation Device (TDD) to intercept the alleged stolen vehicle at Brisbane Road, Helensvale, where the two girls fled on foot. They were arrested a short distance away.

A 15-year-old Pimpama girl and a 17-year-old Loganholme girl have each been charged with one count of armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Both are scheduled to appear at the Southport Children’s Court later this month.
