A new art exhibition by local Canberra artist Caroline Ambrus titled ‘See Our Unseen Homeless’ aims to raise awareness about homelessness in Canberra.

Ambrus has been a Canberra Artist for many years and is now using her art to highlight homelessness.

“Despite Canberra’s affluence, homelessness remains a pressing issue often overlooked by those in comfort and those in power,” said Ms. Ambrus, who has experienced homelessness herself.

“I’m absolutely honoured to be able to sponsor this inspiring exhibition,” said Johnathan Davis, Greens MLA for Brindabella.

“In a housing crisis, it is particularly important that we do everything we can to help those who don’t have a stable place to call home.

“The first step to this is truly acknowledging the scale of this crisis, including right here in Canberra. This is what Caroline’s art does so well.”

The exhibition will display portraits of homeless individuals throughout Canberra, as well as some more abstract pieces and a piece focusing on Ms Ambrus’s own experience being homeless.

“Not all of us have been homeless. But all of us have the same humanity, the same loves, hates, urges, needs, pleasures and pain,” Ms. Ambrus said, encouraging others to view Canberra’s homeless population with compassion.

See our Unseen Homeless opens on Tuesday 24 October at 11:45 at the ACT Legislative Assembly. The exhibition will be opened by Johnathan Davis MLA , ACT Shelter CEO Travis Gilbert and Dr Elizabeth Reid AO . The exhibition will be open daily to the public until Friday 27 October.
