The Australian Government has partnered with Fiji and Papua New Guinea under the Indo-Pacific Carbon Offsets Scheme. The countries signed partnership agreements in Glasgow while attending the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26).
Fiji and Papua New Guinea are Australia’s first international scheme partners. The scheme will enable partner countries to:
- generate high-integrity carbon offsets
- participate in an Indo-Pacific carbon market.
Australia will work with our partners to launch low emissions projects that support sustainable development in the region. We will also share technical expertise in carbon accounting to help them meet international reporting obligations.
Partner countries will play a key role in designing the scheme.
