Logan District police have charged a 32-year-old man with multiple offences after investigations into a number of break-and-enters on businesses in Beenleigh recently.
Around 8:30am yesterday officers noticed the man walking along George Street, Beenleigh, wearing similar clothing to a person seen on CCTV allegedly breaking into a jewellery store on the same street earlier this week.
Police will allege they located numerous items of suspected stolen jewellery, a small quantity of methylamphetamine and suboxone, and a small knife after stopping and speaking with the man.
As a result of further investigations the man’s phone was seized where it will be alleged officers found child exploitation material.
It will further be alleged the man forced entry to a carpark on George Street just before midnight on Monday, June 22 and attempted to enter a number of vehicles. After unsuccessful attempts on multiple cars, it is alleged the man smashed the rear passenger window of a Toyota Corolla and removed numerous small items including hand sanitizer, gloves and children’s toys.
The man was captured on CCTV leaving the carpark a short time later.
Then around 4:30am on Tuesday, June 23, police allege the same man used a stolen black Hyundai Accent to smash into a George Street jewellery store.
The vehicle is believed to have been stolen from a neighbouring business, before being abandoned at the jewellery store.
A display cabinet, which included synthetic stones used in the sizing of jewellery, was stolen during the incident.
The Beenleigh man has been charged with four counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts of possessing child exploitation material, one count of unlawful use of motor vehicle and one count of possessing tainted property.
He is expected to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court today.
Logan District Inspector, Barry Smith, said the charges reflect the district’s ongoing commitment to tracking down offenders engaged in alleged criminal activity.
“Officers across the District work tirelessly to ensure members of our community feel safe and secure, and this is another great example of police acting quickly to get an alleged offender off the street.”
Investigations are ongoing.
