Brain Injury Awareness Week 19

NSW Gov

It’s Brain Injury Awareness Week (BIAW) and this year the theme is ‘What’s your connection?’

The brain is made up of many synapses and neuropathways which connect how we think, feel, behave and act, move, smell, see, taste, understand and so much more. When one of these connections experiences an injury, many things can change in a person’s life. As no two brain injuries are the same, it is important to understand the unique impact an injury can have on a person’s life.

MLHD is home to the South West Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service (SWBIRS), supporting children and adults who have sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI).

At SWBIRS, clients build connections with a range of health professionals, depending on their situation and goals. These include social workers, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, neuropsychologists and physiotherapists.

Our team provides community outreach services across the region as well as live-in and day programs at Tarkarri, our Transitional Living Unit located in Lavington.
