Breaking ground to mark new parks build

The building of two new parks in Prahran has been celebrated with the turning of the first sod by City of Stonnington Mayor, Jami Klisaris and Victorian Government Member for Southern Metropolitan, Mr Ryan Batchelor MLC.

The parks in Mount and Bangs streets, Prahran are the first in a series of pocket parks, interconnecting green spaces and people-friendly streets planned for this vibrant inner-city neighbourhood.

Delivered through the Mount Street precinct masterplan and with $2.6 million in funding support from the Victorian Government’s Suburban Park Program, Bangs Park and Mouclif Park will give residents and visitors to the area a shady, tranquil place to relax or meet up with friends – away from the hustle of bustle of nearby Chapel and High streets.

The masterplan will be delivered over several years and, when complete, will see streets within the Mount Street precinct enhanced by green spaces, better pedestrian access and avenues of shade trees.

The first two parks, Bangs and Mouclif, are expected to be open to be the public by the end of 2023.

I’m delighted to see construction begin on two new pocket parks in one of our most vibrant inner-city neighbourhoods, Prahran.

The Mouclif and Bangs parks are the first of a series of new parks and interconnecting green zones that we will be building through the delivery of the Mount Street masterplan.

Developed with extensive community input, the Mount Street masterplan is our blueprint to create green spaces and people-friendly streets in this high density area, and give the local community and visitors tranquil places to sit, relax and enjoy.

On behalf of Council, my thanks to the Victorian Government who through the Suburban Parks Program has provided generous funding that has allowed us to make these new parks a reality.
