Bridges renewal and truck safety funding

The Australian Government will deliver a new nationwide investment of over $50.3 million towards 23 projects under the Bridges Renewal Program.

This is in addition to a nationwide investment of over $34.8 million in 18 new projects under the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program (HVSPP).

Bridges Renewal funds the upgrade and replacement of bridges across Australia, to enhance access and improve freight through local communities.

This program provides funding to fix issues with bridges no longer fit for purpose, often involving the replacement of aged single-lane timber bridges with double-lane, modern concrete structures.

The HVSPP provides funding to state, territory and local governments for projects that increase safety and productivity for the trucking industry and communities.

Projects funded under the HVSPP program include widening and upgrading roads used in heavy vehicle freight routes as well as upgrading existing and building new truck stop rest areas.

The Australian Government has committed at least $85 million per year going forward for the Bridges Renewal Program, and at least $65 million per year to the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program.
