Brimbank Council cements its approach to graffiti prevention

Brimbank Council has adopted its updated Graffiti Prevention and Management Policy 2019 that supports Council’s ongoing approach to prevention and removal of graffiti across the community.

Brimbank Mayor Cr Lucinda Congreve said the Graffiti Prevention and Management Policy 2019 clearly outlines our shared responsibility with the community in preventing and minimising unauthorised graffiti.

“Council has worked hard to proactively manage and prevent graffiti, and promote a safe, clean and welcoming city.

“Our annual cost for graffiti removal is approximately $300,000, and last financial year we received 655 requests to remove graffiti.

“The good news is our proactive approach to removing graffiti, particularly in hot spots, has seen a healthy decline in the number of graffiti removal requests over the past five years – almost 40 per cent less.

“Our priority is to continue this approach and prevent further unauthorised graffiti vandalism.

“This Policy provides a coordinated approach to reducing the incidence of unauthorised graffiti vandalism, and our work towards enhancing the appearance, character and pride in Brimbank’s public spaces.

“Unauthorised graffiti is unsightly. It’s a form of vandalism and has no place in our community.

“We’re working with the community to improve public amenity, and provide more opportunities for artistic legal mural projects in our city,” Cr Congreve said.
