Buy Local and Support Territory Businesses and Industry this Christmas

NT Government

Tis the season to support our fellow Territorians and there is no better time to buy local, with Christmas and the New Year just around the corner.

Territorians are now planning their festive feasts and the Territory Government is encouraging everyone to buy local seafood and support our world renowned aquaculture industry.

The Territory’s high-quality fresh and tasty seafood products are due to our well-managed fisheries, which is why our local seafood products are so popular.

If you need a break from cooking and entertaining over the Christmas period, head to one of our many fantastic restaurants and entertainment venues across the Territory.

We are also reminding everyone to buy local when shopping for all those last minute Christmas gifts and our Territory retail businesses have some of the best and most unique products in the country.

Quotes from Minister for Small Business, Paul Kirby:

“Buying local means supporting Territory jobs and industry.”

“I encourage all Territorians to buy local seafood, enjoy our local restaurants and shop at their local retail businesses.”

“More than $130 million dollars is injected into our economy as a result of the seafood industry every year, which is having flow-on benefits right across the Territory.

“We are backing in small business and industry, because we know they are the backbone of the Territory.”

Quotes from Darwin City and Waterfront Retailers Association General Manager, Andrea Wicking

“The past 18 months has proven that when Territorians immerse and embrace where they live, the investment by them into the local economy keeps it thriving. Do not underestimate the power of the local spend, it has kept many shops, cafes, and restaurants open, and hundreds of local casual staff employed during unpredictable times. Spending local ensures the money stays in the Territory to build and sustain thriving small to medium businesses, owned and operated by Territorians.”
