Two males in Katherine have been charged in relation to drug and driving offences.
Police allege that on Tuesday 29 January 2019, a 34-year-old male driving on the Stuart Highway in Katherine refused to provide a roadside saliva test. He was subsequently arrested for a drug analysis.
The male’s 26-year-old passenger was searched pursuant to the Police Administration Act, with police locating a package containing 11 small deal bags inside his clothing.
The deal bags contained what appeared to be methamphetamine. A homemade bong was also located inside the vehicle.
Both males were conveyed to the Katherine Watch House, where the 34-year-old driver underwent a drug analysis and returned a positive result for cannabis, amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The 34-year-old was charged with:
- Supply Schedule 1 dangerous drug (less than commercial quantity)
- Possess Schedule 1 dangerous drug in a public place (less than traffickable quantity)
- Possess thing to administer dangerous drug
- Drive with prohibited drug in body
- Drive with expired licence
The 26-year-old male was charged with:
- Supply Schedule 1 dangerous drug (less than commercial quantity)
- Possess Schedule 1 dangerous drug in a public place (less than traffickable quantity)
- Possess thing to administer dangerous drug
The two are scheduled to appear in Katherine Local Court this morning.
