Detectives have charged a man over his alleged role in three public place shootings across Sydney’s south.
In March, detectives from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command formed Strike Force Kiewarra to investigate shootings across the Sutherland area.
Just before 4am on Sunday 29 March 2020, emergency services were called to bushland off Heathcote Road at Lucas Heights, following reports of a 30-year-old man had suffered gunshot wounds to his legs.
He was treated on scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before he was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.
Just after 2am on Wednesday 1 April 2020, emergency services were called to a unit complex on Taren Point Road, Caringbah, following reports shots had been fired.
At the property, a 26-year-old woman suffered minor injuries to her face and hands. She was treated on scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics.
The other occupant of the property, a four-year-old girl, was not injured.
Strike force investigators linked these incidents to a shooting in Bexley, which is being investigated by St George Police Area Command.
About 7.20am on Sunday 29 March 2020, police have been told a sedan pulled up alongside three men on Doonan Street, before the driver fired several shots. No one was injured.
Following extensive inquiries, Strike Force Kiewarra investigators attended a correctional facility in Silverwater and arrested a 29-year-old man about 8.45am today (Thursday 30 April 2020).
He was charged with six offences, including:
- discharge firearm or other loaded arms with intent to cause grievous bodily harm,
- fire firearm manner likely to injure persons/property,
- fire firearm at dwelling house with disregard for safety,
- possess loaded firearm public place,
- possess unauthorised pistol, and
- possess ammunition without holding licence.
The Belmore man was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today.
