City celebrates Community Leadership Program graduates

The City of Greater Geelong has celebrated the completion of its 2023 Community Leadership Program with 17 participants acknowledged by Mayor Trent Sullivan at yesterday’s graduation ceremony.

The aspiring leaders have completed a nine-month interactive experience designed to equip them with personal and professional growth opportunities, as part of the City’s commitment to developing skilled and passionate leaders across the region.

Throughout the course of the 2023 Community Leadership Program, participants:

  • developed an increased knowledge and understanding of the Geelong community
  • connected with like-minded peers and
  • were equipped with knowledge and tools across a range of topics designed to enhance their leadership capabilities.

The program involved eight full-day, face-to-face sessions on the second Wednesday of each month.

It was delivered at a variety of venues throughout the City of Greater Geelong before yesterday’s graduation at the City’s Civic precinct Wurriki Nyal.

Mayor Trent Sullivan

I applaud this year’s cohort and thank them for committing to the program.

The past nine months have provided a terrific opportunity to learn from qualified and recognised community and industry experts.

I congratulate all 17 aspiring and emerging leaders who invested in the program, and I trust the experience was helpful in strengthening their leadership skills.

Deputy Mayor Anthony Aitken

This brought together participants from across the municipality and many areas of community life.

I’m sure it was a valuable learning experience, and my hope is that all participants will have takeaways that assist in managing future relationships, increasing community engagement and building capacity in the workplace and in their local communities.

Many among our 17 participants were already making a difference in our community and my hope is that the skills acquired will ultimately benefit residents right across our region.

I would also like to thank the participants’ employers for supporting them to attend this important program.
