Celebrating originality and community spirit through visual art, food and intercultural exchange is the focus of this year’s online Clayton Festival program.
Monash Council is proud to present an eight day program of free workshops, activities and participatory experiences from Saturday 20 February to Saturday 27 February.
The grassroots community celebration – now in its 20th year – offers a place for people of all ages to connect to more than 40 unique events, from the comfort of their own home and across Australia.
Mayor Brian Little said that while the COVID-19 pandemic had changed the way the community would come together for the Festival this year, it had not blunted the spirit of this fantastic celebration.
“The Clayton Festival is a great opportunity for our community to come together and enjoy, learn and share in other cultures and to experience the wonderful diversity of the Monash community,” Cr Little said.
“More than ever, given the difficulties of last year, the Festival highlights the strength, resilience and determination of our diverse community.”
Participants can connect in new ways, learn new skills and join the exciting exchange of visual art, food, performance and live virtual learning experiences, including:
- Flavours of Monash – foodies will be able to savour online cooking demonstrations, listen to podcasts and discover a mouth-watering selection of global recipes from Eritrea, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and more, in the Flavours of Monash cookbook, to be launched exclusively for the Festival
- Created in Clayton – introducing original projects created just for the online Festival, including Sonic Art workshops and a photographic exploration of Caregivers by visual artist Ross Coulter (NGV) supported by Monash Gallery of Art.
- Inclusive Online Spaces – older and younger participants can share knowledge and stories in one of the many culturally-safe and inclusive online spaces, such as bilingual playgroups and an intercultural book club
- Unique Intercultural Projects – participants can enjoy workshops, seminars, demonstrations, digital projects and showcases aimed at children aged 0-12 and their caregivers, young people aged 12-25, adults and people aged over 60.
Whether you want to master chess, learn to Bollywood dance, or give sonic painting a try, all roads lead to the Clayton Festival online.
