Commemorating 50 years of the AIC as the 2023 conference brings together experts in crime and criminal justice

The Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) is hosting the AIC 2023 conference on Monday 16 October 2023, commemorating 50 years since the establishment of the AIC.

AIC Deputy Director Dr Rick Brown said he is especially excited that this conference will be held at the National Library of Australia in Canberra, where in 1973 Attorney-General, Senator Murphy officially announced the opening of AIC.

“We are proud to have been delivering national research to promote justice and reduce crime for 50 years. Our applied research makes a significant contribution to ongoing policy and practice.

“The AIC 2023 conference provides an excellent opportunity for policy-makers, practitioners, and academics to come together to discuss contemporary issues impacting the crime and justice sector Australia.

“We’re excited to hear from experts to address topics including cybercrime, online sexual exploitation of children, sexual violence, future of policing and corrections and climate change and crime,” Dr Brown said.

The 2023 conference will also include a talk by Professor Russell G Smith on the history of the AIC.

  • Professor Russell G Smith, Flinders University and Honorary Fellow, AIC
