Lismore City Council has established a committee to progress the proposed Walk of Honour as part of the future Lismore Boulevard – Shared User Path project, following the successful approval of funding for a major upgrade to the pedestrian and cycling link connecting the CBD, sports precinct and Lismore Square.
Lismore City Mayor Steve Krieg said the Walk of Honour will recognise and celebrate individuals who have achieved distinction and made a lasting impact on the Lismore community through professional excellence, community contribution, cultural and creative achievement, sport and recreation, innovation or leadership.
“Council will call for expressions of interest from the community, giving residents the opportunity to nominate deserving individuals for inclusion in the Walk of Honour,” Mayor Krieg said.
As part of Lismore Boulevard – Shared User Path project, Council will progress the Walk of Honour, which was previously resolved by Council, and is proposed to be incorporated into the future design by building on the existing footpath alignment.
Council has adopted the Committee’s Terms of Reference and eligibility guidelines and resolved that the membership of the Walk of Honour Committee include Councillors Hall, Bing, Dalton-Earls, Knight-Smith and Rob, with Mayor Krieg serving as Chair.
Council will soon invite nominations, with the Committee to assess submissions and make recommendations to Council on the successful honourees to be included in the Walk of Honour.
“Community involvement will be central to ensuring the Walk of Honour reflects the people who have helped shape Lismore’s history and identity,” the Mayor said.
