Significant rainfall has fallen over many parts of the Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast areas of NSW over the past few days. Many catchments have seen rainfall totals exceed 500mm since Saturday.
Moving into today, we are seeing an easing of these heavy downpours and the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has cancelled the Severe Weather Warning for the Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers.
With widespread rainfall predicted today across many areas in NSW, with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms, there is still the potential that areas could see flash flooding and river heights rise, but this is not expected to have major impacts.
Many places continue to be affected by riverine and flash flooding, isolations and evacuations. There are multiple road closures across the Northern Rivers as a result of flood impacts.
NSW SES urge the community to please drive to the conditions in your location, limit any unnecessary travel and if you intend to travel please plan ahead and allow for possible water on roads, traffic, road closures and diversions – check live traffic for road information or call 132 701.
Floodwater has impacted many roads causing erosion and damage. Please monitor the local conditions carefully and avoid driving through floodwater.
An Evacuation Order is currently in place for Murwillimbah and the NSW SES will issue an ‘All Clear’ when it is safe for residents and businesses to return. An Evacuation Centre has been opened at Wollumbin High School 94 North Arm Road Murwillumbah.
Evacuation Warnings are also in place for:
- Low-lying areas of North Macksville
- Tumbulgum and surrounding areas
- South Murwillumbah and Tweed Valley Way
We are monitoring the situation in these areas closely and hoping to lift these warnings soon.
NSW SES volunteers continue to assist residents in many areas.
There has been over 1730 Requests for Assistance since last Thursday when this weather system began to impact NSW and over 25 flood rescues.
