Condolences from City of Perth

On behalf of the City of Perth, I extend our deepest condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and family and to all those who share in the sad news of the passing of Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh who passed away yesterday aged 99.

Prince Phillip was an inspiring example of dedication, to his queen and country, an advocate for young people, creating the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, a pioneer of conservation and a man who dedicated his life to service. He was a much-loved and highly respected public figure, but also a devoted husband and a proud and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

At the City of Perth, we fondly remember when the Queen and Prince Phillip visited Perth in 1963 and officially opened Council House on the 25 March 1963.

Here (photo above) he is standing on the steps of our building, Council House, in a pose we recognised for decades, dutifully supporting his Queen.

Flags at Council House will be at half mast in respect for the passing of this beloved member of the Royal Family.
