Controlled burn: EarthTalks examines fire as management tool in mid-Atlantic

Fire makes the news when it burns out of control in places like Australia and California, but not all fires are destructive. Controlled fires are critical land management tools in mid-Atlantic states like New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Erica Smithwick, E. Willard and Ruby S. Miller Professor of Geography at Penn State, will discuss “burning” land management decisions and fire-related solutions at the next EarthTalks seminar at 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, in 112 Walker Building at University Park. The talk is free and open to the public.
