Council is inviting residents to have their say on the Draft Environment Strategy.
The draft strategy seeks to provide a 10 year overarching direction for existing and future environment related priorities and projects.
Environmental Services Manager Craig Doolan said the Noosa community has a long history of placing a high value on the natural environment, and will continually strive for a higher standard in the way we manage and live in our environment.
“This strategy recognises this and will help prioritise investment and deliver an integrated and collaborative approach to achieving excellence in environmental protection and management.
“It includes clear strategies, targets and a range of outcomes that Council seeks to achieve, in partnership with the community.”
The strategy identifies a range of important outcomes under four themes: Biodiversity; Waterways, Wetlands and Coasts; Sustainable Living; and Climate Change Adaptation.
“Council is particularly looking to the public for feedback on these outcomes to help inform the development of a more detailed implementation plan and to prioritise action.
“The implementation plan will be developed with the final version of the strategy, and will set out key actions for the first two years.
“It will also include a framework for monitoring and evaluating the success of the strategy.”
Council developed the draft Environment strategy following last year’s extensive community and stakeholder consultation.
More than 20 community groups were involved in helping Council develop the draft strategy, through a series of workshops, along with more than 80 submissions received from residents. All feedback helped inform the draft strategy.
Residents and other stakeholders can comment on the draft strategy from 25 February until 25 March via Council’s YourSay Noosa website.
