Cyclist dies after being struck by car; woman charged at Bathurst, NSW

A woman has been charged following a fatal cyclist crash in the state’s Central Tablelands yesterday.

About 11.15am (Wednesday 1 April 2020), emergency services were called to the intersection of George Street and Stanley Street, Bathurst, after reports a cyclist had been struck by a car.

Police believe the cyclist was making a right turn from George Street onto Stanley Street when she was struck.

The rider, a 72-year-old woman, was assisted by witnesses before being treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedic and taken to Bathurst Hospital in a critical condition.

She was then airlifted to Westmead Hospital where she died a short time later.

Officers from Chifley Police District established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.

The driver of the Subaru, a 34-year-old Windradyne woman, was uninjured and taken to Bathurst Hospital for mandatory testing, before being taken to Bathurst Police Station.

She was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous and negligent driving (occasioning death).

The woman was granted conditional bail to appear before Bathurst Local Court on Monday 22 June 2020.
