Cyclists injured after crash, Mount Louisa (Townsville)

Police are investigating after a group of cyclists were struck by a vehicle which failed to remain at the scene in Mount Louisa this morning.

Preliminary information suggests the group of men and women were travelling outbound along Dalrymple Road when a car drove into the pack near Bamford Lane around 5.40am.

The vehicle was then witnessed leaving the scene.

A 51-year-old woman sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to Townsville Hospital. A 36-year-old man, 49-year-old woman, a woman aged in her 50s and 58-year-old man were also transported to hospital in a stable condition with various injuries.

Townsville police have since recovered a Rav 4 believed to be involved in the incident. The vehicle is currently undergoing forensic and scientific examination.

Inspector Damien Crosby confirmed the vehicle was not stolen and the police investigation has no link to recent property crime offences being committed across Townsville.

“Investigations are continuing by both Townsville Detectives and Investigators from the Forensic Crash Unit,” Inspector Crosby said.

“We would like to thank the public for the assistance and information provided to date.”
